UVA Students

At Engineers Going Global, we are driven to provide quality project experience for our members. Our goal is to enable project teams to provide sustainable and culturally-aware solutions to problems in the local, national and international communities. As an organization, we are able to provide essential resources and services to our members that will bolster their individual projects, including:

  • Funding through our EGG Internal Grant program.

  • Workshops that are targeted towards specific project team needs. These include JPC and IRB proposal writing, financial modeling, leadership, and wood working.

  • Connections with important UVA faculty and professors, as well as connections to the number of grants and funding opportunities across the University.

  • Project Leader Meetings that connect project teams to promote synergy and cooperation as well as provide necessary skills for project leadership.

  • Personalized attention from our Project Managers to help project teams reach their goals.

  • Members to fill spaces on existing project teams.

UVA Students work at the Charlottesville EcoVillage to construct a playground.

HOW DO I JOIN A PROJECT TEAM?

If you are interested in joining one of our existing projects, we hold our annual Project Pitch Night during the beginning of the Fall semester. At the Pitch Night, leaders will gather and pitch their projects to prospective members in order to recruit them to join their project teams. After the pitch night, students are able to apply for the project(s) of their choice.

I HAVE AN IDEA FOR A PROJECT. WHAT DO I DO NOW?

Engineers Going Global also encourages the creation of new projects. If you have an idea, whether it is still very basic or is a project you would like to continue from high school or outside of EGG, then contact one of our Project Managers and they will be more than happy to sit down with you and go over your idea with you. Some of our most successful projects have come about from motivated students who approach us with an idea.

I DO NOT THINK I WILL BE ACCEPTED TO ONE OF THE MORE ESTABLISHED PROJECTS BUT STILL WANT TO BE INVOLVED IN EGG. WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?

In additional to our traditional projects, we also offer our unique Structured Project programs, in which an experienced EGG project leader will lead a team of first years and other students with little to no project experience. The goal of the Structured Project program is to provide students with the necessary project skills that will allow them to either lead their own EGG projects or be accepted to the more established and rigorous EGG projects. The Structured Project team(s) will be filled after the other project teams have been created, so if you were not accepted to a project, please apply to the Structured Project!

EGG also offers the chance to work in one of our Deputy positions. This will involve working directly for the Executive Board to assist with important tasks such as new project identification, community outreach, and fundraising. If you are interested in holding a Deputy position, please contact the President or Vice President.
